- Daughter of an alcoholic corn-factor.
Wanted to become a nun, but her family opposed the decision, and so she took a private vow of perpetual chastity, and began teaching and working with youth as a lay woman.
Extensive correspondent, often writing on spirituality; many of letters were later collected and published.
With Saint Vincentia Gerosa, she founded the Sisters of Charity of Lovere in 1832.
Based on the Rule of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul, it was dedicated to teaching the young, and caring for the impoverished sick.
The congregation received papal approval in 1840, and today has over 500 communities.
