Profile: Sixth century northern British chieftain who was driven into Wales by military opponents. There he entered religious life. Monk. Abbot. Founder of Bangor abbey, Flintshire, Wales, on the Dee river, which eventually grew to about 2,400 monks, which was destroyed c.603. Assisted at the second synod of Welsh bishops convened by Saint Augustine of Canterbury in 602.
