- Soldier in the imperial Roman army for 27 years, and the veteran of seven campaigns.
Converted to Christianity somewhere along the way, but was a good enough soldier that it never mattered to anyone.
During one of the organized persecutions, he was denounced by his brother soldiers.
The examining prefect, Maximus, tried to bribe the veteran into denouncing his faith.
Julius declined.
