Son of Bela I, king of Hungary. King of Hungary in 1077. Annexed Dalmatia and Croatia to greater Hungary. He expelled the Huns, Poles, Tatars, and Russians from his lands, and make Christianity the national religion. Known for his enlightened government, his devotion to his people and to the Church. Chosen commander-in-chief of the First Crusade, but died before the expedition left.
